tenbraeAxminster Chamber Choir returns to St John's Church in West Bay on Sunday 25th March 2018 at 3.30pm with a programme of beautiful choral music written for Holy Week.

The centrepiece of the concert will be the Tenebrae Responsories for Maundy Thursday by the seventeenth century Czech composer Jan Dismas Zelenka.

Whilst hardly a household name today, many musicologists dealing with music of this period agree that the compositions of this long-forgotten musical giant approach or equal those of his contemporaries Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and Telemann in their advanced use of counterpoint, their ingenuity and resourcefulness, and their overall beauty.

Coupled with music by Gibbons, Victoria, Weelkes and Lotti (his famous "Crucifixus" for eight voices), this promises to be a concert which should not be missed.

Tickets cost £10 (including our famous buffet tea) and will be available at the door, or in advance from This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
