african-american-giA new book explores stories of African American soldiers in Dorset during Second World War A new book which explores stories of the African American GIs who came to Dorset to train for D-Day is now available to buy online. The book, entitled 1944 We Were Here: African American GIs in Dorset is part of a project run by Development Education in Dorset (DEED) in partnership with Walford Mill Crafts and the Priest House museum. It was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and JP Morgan. An exhibition containing some of the material included in the book was successfully launched last May at Walford Mill Crafts. The exhibition has been touring different venues in Dorset and has had a positive reception from the people who have seen it.

£31 million Dorset deal will bring superfast broadband to thousands more homes and businesses (eventually).

97 per cent of Dorset premises will have access to fibre based technology.

Dog walking volunteers urgently required in Bridport

The Cinnamon Trust is a national charity for the elderly and terminally ill and their much loved, much needed pets.

Volunteers help to keep owners and pets together either by walking a dog for a housebound owner, fostering pets when the owners need hospital care and even cleaning out a bird cage.

Register your interest in the Superfast Dorset scheme online - do the DCC survey!

7,295 people have already said they are interested in superfast broadband when it arrives. Total registration numbers will help the Council understand how many people will take up the opportunity to have superfast broadband when it is available. Registrations from specific parishes will demonstrate that particular communities are really interested in superfast speeds.

broadwindsor-storesVillagers at Broadwindsor were in the mood for celebrating on Saturday when they officially opened their new community stores in the old telephone exchange.

And it was a special day for village school pupil Ellie Guppy, who won a poster competition to promote the opening. Not only did she cut the ribbon, it was also her ninth birthday.

On Thursday 21st March Rethink will be launching  a new Mental Health Information Point  service that will be accessible to the local community and visitors.
