Ultra Marathon Runner to challenge the Sahara Desert for local charity

eade-homestartExperienced marathon runner, Chris Eade, is taking on the ultimate challenge of completing two consecutive marathons over two days in the Moroccan Sahara Desert in October 2016.

Chris, the son of Home-Start West Dorset Trustee Dr Ruth Eade, has already completed several ultra marathons raising crucial funds for various charities. Explaining why he has chosen to support Home-Start, Chris said “As a father who recognises the importance of stable family life to the well-being of children, I consider it a privilege to contribute to this charity which has a successful track-record in supporting young families”

ShirazOn Monday 29th and Wednesday 31st August Bridport Museum will be filled with free music from the lovely  singer-songwriter duo Shiraz. The concerts will start at 11.30am and will feature original songs from these local artists.

Close harmony vocals are a hallmark of these two Bridport singer songwriters. Accompanying themselves on guitar, piano and violin, they appear at festivals, events and private gigs across the South-West. Their album “DOWN THE LINE” will be on sale at their performances or by enquiry via their Facebook page www.facebook.com/Shirazsinging

After more than 6 years of planning, Bridport Area Development Trust is about to start work on the restoration of the Literary and Scientific Institute building in East Street.  The Grade 2* listed building in East Street has been empty since 1997 and is currently on the national At Risk register.

kioskMrs Margaret Miggins' ice cream kiosk is up for rent.

The kiosk that stands on West Bay esplanade has been there since time immemorial withstanding the battering of the elements and standing the strongest of storms, with Margaret and John serving sustenance to all weary travellers.

playarea_dorset_policeThe concept of a "teenage playground" was developed as part of the first SUMMENTOR – a Summer mentoring project focusing on local junior school leavers who, it was felt, would struggle with the transition to Senior School. Involving children who were disadvantaged, the victims of bullying and rural isolation and, in some cases, with a disability, they were mentored by students from the Sir John Colfox Academy for three weeks over the Summer of 2006.

One of rock music’s more iconic images is that of Jimi Hendrix onstage at the Monterey Pop Festival in ’67, kneeling over the remains of his burning guitar after his performance of “Wild Thing.” He was beckoning the flames to rise as if summoning up demons and dragons from hell, which is what several fans described as witnessing after ingesting “Monterey Purple,” a strain of LSD concocted especially for the event.
