Former Bridport Youth FC Player awarded Football Scholarship with Portsmouth FC.
Liam Sayers has been given every young footballers dream by signing a Scholarship deal with Portsmouth Football Club’s Academy. For the last 2 and a half years Liam has been travelling to the PFC academy and after scoring 21 goals in as many games this season, he was awarded a 2 year deal. He will start work on 1st July as a paid footballer.
Liam started his footballing education with Bridport Youth from the age of 11. His goal-scoring was first noted by Dorchester FCs newly formed academy in 2009. He was spotted by Portsmouth Scout Jan Rowles playing at the Dorchester 6-a-side tournament, and watched over the following year.
Liam was also asked to represent the Dorset FA team, and in a game against Portsmouth’s Under 13s impressed enough to be asked for a trial with the Pompey academy. A 2 year deal followed at the end of the trial at age 14.
He has been lucky enough to play against Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton and Fulham amongst others.
Liam can now look forward to a footballing education and career with PFC and will jet off to Holland on education and football tour playing 3 games over two weeks, and represent PFC in the Under 18 development squad.
We wish Liam every success with his future career.
