HA! HA! HARDY

Dorset's own folk singer, musician and actor Tim Laycock pays tribute to iconic Dorset writer Thomas Hardy, in his show ‘Ha! Ha! Hardy’, which he performs at Broadwindsor and Cerne Abbas this month, following two sell-out performances when Tim premiered the show in the autumn.

In ‘Ha! Ha! Hardy’, Tim celebrates the humorous side of Hardy’s writings with selected favourite readings and songs. Though not best known for writing comedy, Hardy’s novels and poems contain some richly comic characters and situations, which Tim expertly brings vividly to life through spoken word, folksong and music. Dorset fiddle player Colin Thompson will accompany Tim for this show, making it a true celebration of Dorset talent!

In this show you can expect to hear excerpts from The Return of the Native, Under the Greenwood Tree, and Some Crusted Characters, and it will appeal to anyone who enjoys the works of Hardy and Wessex characters.

Tim Laycock is a specialist in the poetry and prose of William Barnes and Thomas Hardy, as well as songs, traditions and dialect of the West Country. Along with traditional folksong, these influences often form the basis of his songwriting for the New Scorpion Band, with whom he performs.
