Fingerprint and Kynourio Soma Bring Earth My Earth to Bridport’s Seafront This September
A free weekend of performance, art and community exchange comes to Bridport as Dorset dance company Fingerprint and Greek non-profit Kynourio Soma bring their project Earth My Earth to West Pier, the Salt House & Garden and East beach, inviting residents to explore textile waste, memory and reuse.
BRIDPORT, DORSET — This September, Bridport’s public spaces become a stage for art, exchange and community. Earth My Earth arrives in town on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, brought to Dorset through a collaboration between Fingerprint Dance and Greek non-profit Kynourio Soma, working alongside a wide network of local dance, environmental, fashion and care organisations.
Earth My Earth
Earth My Earth is a concept developed over many years by Greek choreographer Angeliki Papadatou and co-founder of Kynourio Soma and co-producer of the project, Helen Noakes. Earth my Earth combines different artistic approaches and opens them out to the community. Performing arts is the main artistic medium, with environmental practices embodied through an approach that reaches different facets of the individual, what Angeliki describes as a performative, rather than a conventional performance. The framework travels to each location, inviting local communities, artists and associations to take part in creative activism and experiential workshops, turning public space into a museum, a stage and a place for social gathering, open to a multicultural community of all ages.

From Greece to Bridport
Earth My Earth began its journey in Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece, home to Kynourio Soma. For its Bridport edition, the project turns to a theme close to home: textile waste. Through creative practice, it explores our relationship with clothes, materials, consumption, memory and reuse, asking questions about how we value the things we already have. Cleo Evans, the project’s Dorset partner for this edition, brings extensive experience in organising site-specific environmental artistic events and helping to develop the project locally.
Textile Waste, Clothing & Stories
A key element of the Bridport edition is an intergenerational exchange, with older people sharing knowledge and skills from the past. As part of this, local people are invited to clear out their closets and bring clothes to the event, contributing directly to the project’s artistic and environmental process. People are invited to bring:
- Clothes you’re not wearing but are in good condition, to pass on to someone you know.
- Clothes you’re not wearing and want to plainly give away.
- Clothes that cannot be given away because of their poor condition.
- An old, very worn or precious garment — and its story, or stories, to share.
The clothes and stories gathered will feed into the event’s clothing swap and reuse elements, alongside the wider performance and installation.
A Collaboration Across the Community
With direction from their Dorset partner Cleo Evans, the Bridport edition sees the work presented through the collaboration of Fingerprint and Kynourio Soma, alongside a wide network of local organisations: Bridport Youth Dance, including dancers from The Weavers; No Limits; Grace + Growl Dance Company; Bridport School of Regenerative Fashion; West Bay Swimmers Action Group; Harbour House residential care home for the elderly; and Bridport Food Matters. Together, they bring dance, young people, regenerative fashion, community action, older residents and food into the project.
Funding
Earth my Earth is mainly funded by The National Lottery Community Funding, awarded to Fingerprint Dance. The remainder of the budget is being organised via crowdfunder
The Event
Across the weekend, the project unfolds along West Bay, Bridport’s seafront — from West Pier to the Salt House & Garden and along the East Beach area — as public space becomes a museum, a stage and a place for gathering and exchanging. The programme includes the collective creation of an installation, interactive performances, experiential workshops and community participation, closing with a shared feast that brings everyone together.

About Kynourio Soma
Kynourio Soma is a non-profit organisation based in Arcadia, Greece, founded in 2022 by Angeliki Papadatou and Helen Noakes, bringing together people from the creative and performative arts and somatic practices. Its aim is education and evolution through movement and contemporary artistic creation with community participation. Angeliki Papadatou is the choreographer who developed the Earth My Earth concept. Helen Noakes, co-founder of Kynourio Soma and co-producer of this project, is a somatic teacher who brings her understanding of the human body as a social and ecological being into the work.
