The recent upsurge in vinyl records fostered by a large number of radio and tv shows on the listening pleasure of records, should come as no surprise to Bridport, the town is becoming established as “The Hay-On-Wye” type town for Record and CD Buyers with its quarterly Vinyl Saturday Record and CD Fair and over 20 shops around town and a number of Saturday Market stalls also selling records and cds.
Vinyl Saturday started in November 2008 at the dawn of the renaissance of renewed interest in vinyl records and made Bridport the first town in the UK and probably Europe to recognise it and offer music fans the opportunity to buy find and buy vinyl records again and other music related items all in one town.The event was that successful that in the following year – The world’s leading authority on all things vinyl Record Collector Magazine recognised it as Record Fair of the year
The quarterly event runs in March, May, August and November of each year and is supported by the Town Council, Tourist Board, Shops and Bridport Market Traders.
Bob Gillis the Town Clerk said for 2013 “Bridport’s Historic Street Market continues to be very popular with local people and visitors to the area, with a wide variety of over 100 stalls on a Saturday. This includes a large number of music stalls, which take pride of place on Vinyl Saturday, which has become one of the key events in the town’s annual calendar.
As the event has grown so as the need for a bigger venue The Record and CD fair on the 25th May has moved to a new venue in Bridport United Church, East St and dates for 2013 and 2014 are already in the calander. The record and cd fair on May 25th will be the biggest yet with 25 tables booked and will run from 10am to 4pm, admission £1 or free with the advert in this paper.
