The LSI: Before the Railways; Prosperity, Religion and Leisure
Following the huge success of his last talk, historian Tim Connor will give a second illustrated talk looking at the background to and setting up of the Literary and Scientific Institute; a snapshot of Bridport in the mid 1850s. The talk will continue the story from where his last talk finished with the Mechanics Institute, through its reincarnation as a Literary and Scientific Institute.
Dr Tim Connor has a particular interest in the architecture of churches and local historic buildings, including the much loved Bridport Literary and Scientific Institute. In his talk, Dr Connor will the story of the Institute, drawing upon his scholarly research and a wry sense of humour.
