The 2015 Melplash Show takes place on 27th August 2015 from 8am – 6pm at the showground on West Bay Road.
A full day of entertainment for all the family! The one day agricultural show not to be missed! There is so much to see and so much to do that early arrival is recommended.
With farming and agriculture at the heart everyone who attends will have a rare opportunity to enjoy the riches of West Dorset rural life by the sea. The finest cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, donkeys and horses from the local area will be on show, as well as farm produce, rural crafts, horticulture, handicrafts and home produce.
DISCOVER FARMING
New this year is the Discover Farming trail – a must for all families who are interested in learning more about food production and farming. By following the trail around the show ground visitors will be given a real insight into farming life and food production, and in the new dedicated Discover Farming Marquee children of all ages will be able to get hands on experience of a variety of ‘Farm to Food’ activities – driving a tractor simulator, flying a drone, making bread, juicing apples, even calving a cow! There is a cash prize of £25 on offer to those that complete the Discover Farming quiz. All entries handed in will receive a FREE Frisbee.
MAIN RING ATTRACTIONS
The main attraction in the Toolstation main ring, where entertainment will be happening throughout the day, is the Royal Air Force Falcons, the UK’s premier parachute display team. They will be performing their unique and colourful aerial display and hopefully if conditions are right their famous 11-person non-contact canopy stack display routine. They will be joined by Bob Hogg who with his sheep dogs will be herding sheep and geese, horse jumping, hounds and beagles and the highlight of the Show, the parade of award winning animals.
COUNTRYSIDE FIELD
There will be demonstrations of traditional rural crafts such as thatching, spar making, charcoal making and hedgelaying. The winner of this year’s Rural Craft Competition and winner of the Guy Gale Perpetual Memorial Trophy, potter Tim Hurn, will have his work on display.
In the popular countryside arena spectators can watch gun dogs, falcon displays, ferret racing and even get their own dog involved in the terrier racing.
FOOD AT THE SHOW
The food hall and By-the-Sea Marquee are jammed packed with local produce. There is a delicious selection of ‘food- to- go’ available that can be washed down with a beer from Palmer’s Melplash Inn or a glass of cider made by one of the local cider makers.
FREE BUS & PARK AND RIDE
A free bus runs throughout the day from Lyme Regis stopping at Charmouth, Morcomblake, and Chideock, and another Free bus running from Bridport. Timetables are available to pick up at the Tourist Information Centres and can be viewed online at http://www.melplashshow.co.uk/location/
