Groups Remember Local Historians
The next meeting of the Bridport History Society is on Thursday 8 June, 2.15 for 2.30 at the United Church Hall, East St, Bridport.. ‘Dorset Migration in the 1800s’: An overview of the research of the ‘Three Degrees‘. With Jane Ferentzi-Sheppard. Jane will be looking at the research undertaken by herself, Diana Trenchard and Celia Martin, both of whom have now passed away.
In 2000 the West Dorset Research Centre was opened at 45, West Street Bridport and work on the Dorset Migration Index began. Jane and Celia went to Bath Spa University and received an MA in .Local and Regional Studies. They became known as the ‘Thee Degrees’ after an American singing group. Over the following years they helped put Dorset Migration on the map. Celia Martin was a long standing member of the society and was recently co-chair and membership secretary.
Somerset and Dorset Family History Society, Meeting
West Dorset Group of the Somerset and Dorset Family History Society, meeting at Loders village hall is on Saturday 10th June at 2.00. There is a cream tea to remember members who have recently passed away, including Celia Martin, Diane Trenchard, Cecil Amor, Pam Pully and Diane Jagged. There will be short presentations about the research they were involved with and time to chat and look at photos showing activities undertaken by the group over the years. These include migration, stone circles and house history. Do come along and share your memories. Let Jane know as soon as possible, so we can organise catering
