Ropemakers Events

An exciting selection of live music is promised at the Ropemakers this weekend with a really good line up starting with The Scribes on Friday 3rd November. They will be supported by Two Dwellers and music will start at 9:00pm.

The Scribes are a multi award winning hip hop three piece whose unique blend of beatboxing, off the cuff freestyling and genre-spanning music has created a live show quite unlike any other on the scene today, with appeal ranging far beyond traditional hip hop fare.

The Scribes are sponsored by independent, ethical and fair trade clothing company THTC (www.thtc.co.uk) alongside artists such as Ed Sheeran and Foreign Beggars and are signed with American record label “Kamikazi Airlines”, based in LA and co-founded by Dizzy Dustin of legendary hip hop act Ugly Duckling, as well as releasing material on UK based label “Reel Me Records” (Laid Blak).

The Scribes are also proud winners of both the Exposure Music Award’s “Best UK Urban Act” and the EatMusic Radio Award’s “Best Live Act”, and have provided original music for BBC and Channel 4 television, as well as being featured regularly on both national and local radio and media including BBC 1Xtra and BBC Radio 1 Introducing.

Traditional Dance Music from Louisiana

Saturday 4th November sees a slight change in pace with the exceptional Joli Blon at 9:15pm. Joli Blon, who take their name from a much loved Cajun waltz, play traditional dance music from Louisiana: a riotous mix of red-hot accordion, rip-roaring fiddle and gutsy, driving guitar. Stomping, hypnotic two-steps, mournful waltzes telling of heartache and despair so sad they make you happy, and a bit of blues – all sung in Cajun French and brought to you by a core trio of women. The music is uplifting and infectiously danceable – bringing audiences of all ages up on their feet and onto the dance floor.

Charity Dog Show

On Sunday 5th November there is no music planned but we will have the annual Ropemakers Charity Dog Show at 4:00pm. This is the annual Charity Dog Show held at the Ropemakers to raise money for the local charity, The Living Tree. As can be expected it is a fun show and not geared for the serious amongst us. Classes include The Waggiest Tail, Most Awesome Eyes, Best Paw Shaker, The dog who looks most like its owner, and of course Ropemakers Top Dog. Entry is £5.00 per dog, all of which will go to the charity.
As a bonus this year, there will be a delicious cake raffle with the prize of a Whiskey infused fruit cake kindly donated by Jane the Cake Fairy. Tickets are £1 each and are available from the bar.

The Living Tree is a registered charity which offers friendship, creative activities & holistic therapies, relevant diet & lifestyle information for anyone with any cancer. They offer mutual support, helping people cope with the fear, anxiety, isolation or stress that cancer can bring by offering a chance to unwind and share laughter (they do a lot of this!) and coping strategies. They also share our knowledge and information about services and resources in the locality.
