Enormous Turnip

It’s the most Enormous Turnip you will have ever seen and it’s coming to The Lyric, Bridport!

The Lyric’s resident theatre company, Stuff and Nonsense, are bringing their re-potted version of the famous children’s story The Enormous Turnip to their home-theatre on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th August.  Following their sell-out touring shows, the 3 Little Pigs, The Elves and The Shoemaker and the Little Red Hen, this unswervingly energetic company will be premiering at their new home with a brilliant adaptation featuring wonderful puppetry, live music and singing cabbages.

In a tiny house the size of a shed, Mr and Mrs Chickweed live on their allotment surrounded by vegetables aplenty. But they can¹t resist planting one more seed and as their turnip grows it threatens their house with disaster! Can anyone help pull up their Enormous Turnip?

Niki McCretton, Director says “the show is a feast of fast action, brilliant puppets and is set in a delightful garden. The audience needs to be ready to help solve the problems the turnip starts to cause and everyone won’t be able to stop smiling.  The ending is a real surprise”.The hugely loveable puppets are created and directed by puppet maestro Marc Parrett who has worked with Bristol Old Vic, Aardman Animations and The RSC and there’s an opportunity for the audience to meet them at the end of the show. Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company has teamed up with leading early-years expert Niki McCretton to create an enormously entertaining show. Niki and Marc bought the Lyric last year and this will be the first time that their own theatre company will perform in their new home. The show is for all ages and even two-year olds will have a great time.Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th August, 11am & 2pm
