Continuing his Jurassic Journey along the World Heritage coastline, award-winning photographer Ben Osborne winds up his touring audio-visual show and will also be leading a workshop in early April, bringing Artsreach’s Spring programme to a close.
Ben (who was awarded the prestigious Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year in 2007) will lead a one-day photographic exploration of Charmouth beach, as part of his current Jurassic Journey project. In addition to visiting the highly photogenic Jurassic Coast, some time will be spent indoors downloading images and discussing them with Ben and the small workshop group. Participants will receive constructive feedback from Ben and take part in a creative process both for their own work and also to collaborate with a singing workshop, providing images for them to respond to musically.
Dorset-based musician and composer Sammy Hurden will be leading the singing workshop alongside Ben’s workshop. Sammy composed and performed the music for the Jurassic Journey show, and recently worked with PJ Harvey, featuring on her latest release ‘Let England Shake’. In the workshop the group will explore songs Sammy wrote for the Jurassic Journey project; songs in harmony that reflect different aspects of the coast, from the reflective to the bizarre! The workshop will include a visit to the coast, weather permitting. As well as working with existing songs, the singers will be experimenting with creating a new piece of music that reflects photographs provided by Ben’s workshop group. The singing workshop is open to anyone who enjoys singing; songs will be taught by ear, so reading music is not required.
Both workshops take place on Sunday 3rd April, meeting at St Andrew’s Hall in Charmouth. The photography workshop runs from 9:30am – 5pm and costs £35; the singing workshop is 10am – 5pm and costs £25.
