Real Food Bus

Come and meet the exciting new local enterprise ‘Real Food Bus‘ in Bridport on Saturday April 2nd from 10am – 3pm when it makes its first stop on the forecourt of the Arts Centre right by Bucky Doo Square.

We’ll be selling tasty hot food and smallholders’ produce, sharing delicious free samples AND selling raffle tickets for the prize of a 3 course feast for 8, cooked and brought to the winner’s home by Real Food Bus (just plan your menu with us and we’ll do the rest).

Real Food Bus is a mobile cafe, catering kitchen and farmshop that will be supplied and run by smallholders from West Dorset and its borders.  It will sell delicious and exciting street food as well as fruit, veg, meat, charcuterie, cheese, bread, eggs, apple juice and preserves.  Our food stuffs and ingredients will be local, organic and grown by producers committed to the best environmental practice and husbandry.

Real Food Bus will cater for events, parties and festivals and is already taking bookings for these.

We also have ambitious plans to develop a couple of regular weekly routes in the West Dorset area and become for that day the local, independent food shop that has been lost from so many villages and towns.

And we want to explore stopping at markets, outside train stations for commuters on their way home, at sheltered accommodation…

We would love to hear people’s suggestions for places that would benefit from being a Real Food Bus stop.

We bought our vehicle (a catering van that was used for organic pizzas) with a grant from the local funding organization Chalk and Cheese and have converted it, retaining stainless steel serving surfaces, adding a cooker and putting in hand-built wooden display shelves.  Local artist Gill Barron has provided artwork and sign-writing design – we want Real Food Bus to look as good as its food tastes.

Real Food Bus brings to Dorset the modern trend for for mobile and ‘pop up’ shops and cafes (like London’s ‘Veg Van’ and ‘Street Kitchen’) as well as recreating the independent food delivery of the past.
