Clare Teal returns to the UK live arena with her The Feeling Good Tour, a new set of UK wide dates for 2012 in preparation for a brand new studio album later this year. Last year saw the award winning songstress celebrate her most successful year professionally and it’s easy to see why when the likes of The Observer described this troubadour as “…bright and adventurous” and endorsed by Sir Michael Parkinson amongst others due to the sheer warmth and flawless nature of Clares’ stunning voice.
The highlight of 2011?
So many to choose from including Clare appearing with John Wilson at the BBC Proms from the Royal Albert Hall, broadcast nationally on BBC2, supporting Lisa Minnelli at London’s Kenwood House, numerous national TV performances, a weekly BBC Radio 2 show, festival appearances and sold out live dates all combined to make 2011 a successful whirlwind year and earmark Clare Teal as the must have artist at this summers festivals.
The year was also recognized for Clare with a Basca Gold Badge Award, a Yorkshire Award to recognize her achievements in Arts and Entertainment.
Quite an honour for the local girl made good from Skipton.
Clare released her tenth album ‘Hey Ho’ in 2011, a celebration of The Great British Songbook spanning a period of 122 years, to widespread critical acclaim. Clare appeared on This Morning and BBC Breakfast as part of a major promotional tour around the release of the album.

Growing up in Yorkshire, England, a young Clare Teal was unlike many other teens of 1980s. A self confessed geek (though an entirely adorable one) she resisted the charms of Simon Le Bon and remained unmoved by the pleadings of Nik Kershaw, Clare spent her time in the attic listening to her Nan’s 78s “I was obsessed with the singers of the 30s, 40s and 50s.”
Trained as a child on the Organ, Piano and Clarinet, Clare went on to study Music at University. Upon graduation she entered a national competition to find the country’s best Billie Holiday sound-alike, “I came second, looking more like Billy Connelly than Billie Holiday.”
One of Clare’s first jobs was writing jingles “I’d write these jingles, and then sing them in the manner of Julie Andrews, Madonna, my old favourite Billie Holiday and, well, anybody, really – including Mario Lanza – who knew?” she recalls. “Rather than making expensive studio demos we used to deliver the first draft to the client as a singing telegram, effective and fun.”
At 27, fate then stepped in. A pianist she had met years earlier during her Billie Holiday episode called, requiring a singer to perform with his band at a festival and wondered whether Clare might be interested. It proved to be the night of her life, where everything suddenly felt natural and right. From there she formed a band, started gigging and with the help of partner Muddy recorded an album. In 2001, she inked a deal with independent label Candid, for whom she wrote and recorded three albums, ‘That’s the Way It Is’, ‘Orsino’s Songs’, ‘The Road Less Travelled’
Clare signed with the Sony Jazz label in 2004, which spawned what would become her breakthrough album ‘Don’t Talk’, an exquisite record of tender jazz that perfectly exemplified just what a talent she was. Critical acclaim poured in from the broadsheets and magazines. ‘Don’t Talk’ topped the British jazz charts and cracked the UK Top 20, shipping 60,000 copies and winning several awards.
Clare’s fifth studio album ‘Paradisi Carousel’ saw the music move towards a more mainstream pop style, however in 2008 Clare embraced a return to her first love – jazz with the release of ‘Get Happy’ on the Universal imprint W14 Music.
Alongside her music, Clare has a successful career in broadcasting, presenting Clare Teal on Sunday nights at 10pm and Big Band Special on Monday nights at 9:30pm for Radio 2. She also contributes a weekly column to her beloved Yorkshire Post.
Clare won British Jazz Singer of the year in both 2005 and 2007 and BBC Jazz Singer of the Year 2006.
