Deep Down Cowboys

Theatre Alibi has a nationwide reputation for imaginative and high quality work for families. This autumn the company tours Deep Down Cowboys,  its latest show for five to ten year olds, to Bridport Arts Centre on Saturday 3 December.

Deep Down Cowboys is jam-packed with action and hugely enjoyable for children and adults alike.  It’s the story of three friends who live deep below the sea in a Russian submarine.  Living on a sub can be tough. You’re cooped up like a sardine for months on end in a three hundred foot long, thirty foot wide, three-storey tin can.  So when Niko moseys on board with his secret stash of Westerns the three go cowboy crazy. They dream of galloping across wide open prairies in ten gallon hats, just like their heroes in The Magnificent Seven. They learn to walk the cowboy walk and talk the cowboy talk – Yeehaw! And when the going gets tough on board the sub the three friends heroically stand shoulder to shoulder to save the day.

Written by Daniel Jamieson, Deep Down Cowboys is both funny and very touching. It’s performed on a fantastic set that looks like the inside of a submarine with amazing sound effects that create the strange creaking noises you hear if you’re inside one. There’s specially composed music too played live on violin and songs that range from Russian ballads to cowboy barnstormers.

Audiences of all ages have loved the show with Steven aged seven saying “I laughed until I got hiccups” and a 74 year old audience member commenting “Wonderful. I am a child again”.
