“They are knockout musicians who play with passion, joy and humour.  Brilliant.” Hank Marvin

Gypsy Fire’s explosive energy and skill combine to create stunning acoustic instrumental performances with breathtaking musical virtuosity. They breathe new life into music from the worlds of classical, jazz, Latin, rock, blues and beyond. Their music is filled with passion and flair, utterly engaging and surprising audiences with twists and turns of harmony and rhythm.  Individually they are acclaimed soloists, together they are simply breathtaking.

Classically trained, yet consummate improvisers, this exciting four piece have an innate sense of swing rhythm.  All four members are masters of pin-point rhythm accuracy and cover songs as diverse as Flight of the Bumblebee, Air on a G String and Blackbird.

Violinist Ben Holder is one of the most gifted and exciting young jazz violinists in the UK. Taught classically from the age of six, and a graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire, he is inspired by masters such as Benny Goodman and Oscar Peterson and the great jazz violinists Grappelli and Joe Venuti.

Guitarist Stuart Carter-Smith has a well-earned reputation as a top class Gypsy Jazz guitarist. As a teenager he fell in love with the music of Django Reinhardt, and his post-classical studies took him to work with some of the finest names in that genre both in the UK and overseas.

Guitarist Ben Travers was introduced to music by his classical guitarist father, and early influences could not have been more diverse – a melting pot of talents such as Preston Reed, Andy Timmons and Steve Lukather to name a few. Ben’s early performance work includes stints in punk, rock and mainstream jazz.

Bassist Paul Jefferies has played with some of the leading names in jazz, including Tina May, Art Themen, Tommaso Starace, Juliet Kelly and Roger Beaujolais.  He is known for a superb sense of time and musicality, and is an inventive and lyrical bassist who appears regularly with a wide range of ensembles including The Frank Hockney Project, DOME, and Rob Terry Trio.
