Four bands from the ‘Pink Hedgehog’ record label are staging a celebration of the label in Bridport’s Electric Palace on Saturday 22nd January 2011 as a way of thanking label owner Simon Felton for his far-sighted enthusiasm and unswerving belief.
Simon Felton started the local indie record label in 1994 with the recording of ‘Let It Brie’ by local group Cheese. He then continued to release a diverse range of some 35 albums.
The concert on Saturday 22nd January will be headlined by ‘Hamfatter’, perhaps best known for their successful backing from Dragon’s Den. Catch their ‘underground-friendly and slightly off-centre take on jazz/blues/pop’ now, before they embark upon their Tom Waits-themed tour of the USA.
Schnauser boast humorous lyrics and dazzling melody. Their masterful second album, The Sound Of Meat, recently earned plaudits in the Sunday Times from comedian Stewart Lee; and he doesn’t like anything.
The Steve Wilson Band have a warm-hearted and rootsy flavour. Their Sideshows And Fairytales album was described by Ear Candy as ‘very relaxed and unhurried blue-eyed soul with loads of pop sensibility’.
Last but not least, power-pop band Cheese reunite since their break in 2005 for what is promising to be a fantastic night of music.
