Ray Butcher at the Jazz Café

On 6th May Bridport’s Jazz Café will be featuring Ray Butcher, a superb trumpeter who has worked with soul diva Mica Paris.

Accompanied by Philip Clouts, Ray Butcher will play a set of well-loved jazz tunes and his own compositions.

Ray said: ‘I have been playing music since I was about eight, starting on piano then moving onto cornet. I was taught by Mr Henry Capper, a great cornet player and ex navy musician. Encouraged by my older brother and marine bandsman Jeremy, I got into all aspects of playing. Eventually I learned jazz piano (age 18) and started jazz trumpet at Kingston University.

‘My own taste in music includes The Beatles, Billy Joel, Simon and Garfunkel, Stevie Wonder, Take 6, Wynton Marsalis, Duke Ellington, Marcus Roberts, Herbie Hancock, George Michael, Harry Connick Jnr, Michael Jackson, and classical influences such as Debussy, Satie and Rachmaninov.’

The event starts at 8pm and admission is £7.50, tickets are available from the Box Office in advance on 01308 424204.
