Songbird – an unexpected duo launch new album in Bridport
Bridport based musicians Steve Jones and Chloe Evans-Lippett describe themselves as “an unexpected duo” due to their different musical backgrounds and age gap. However, these differences have worked in their favour as they have produced an album of breathtaking beautiful and intricately constructed songs – which they will be debuting at Bridport Arts Centre on the 7th February.
Their music on their debut album Songbird standing somewhere between the old and the new, with a jazzy bluesy vibe, but at the same time includes elements of bright and brilliant commercial pop. Songbird features ten local musicians; Julie Dunn, Charlotte Storey, Stompin’ Dave, Dan Anderson, Laurie Higgins, Jack Revy, Michael Grew, Simon Hartung, Andy Leppard and Anne Rickard, and many of these musicians will be joining them to bring the album to life on stage.
Steve said : “We originally came together touring covers including old jazz standards, however, a sudden onset of health problems meant they we were unable to gig. We really enjoyed playing together, so decided to continue with recording music – but this time by writing our own songs.”
“Over the past year we have recorded an albums worth of material, with many local musicians contributing to the tracks.”
The music on Songbird has been informed and enriched by their many experiences, showing that adversity can open doors as much as it can close them. Chloe and Steve were so pleased with what they had produced that they felt it worth putting on one major performance to promote the album.
Chloe said that “We’ve been really surprised at how well received the songs have been and are looking forward to playing them live to an audience in the Arts Centre.”
The evening starts with the original and entertaining songs of “Portico”, a song-writing duo from Poole featuring Sonya Lidiard and Andy Albray.
The doors open at 7.30 p.m. on Friday 7th February at Bridport Arts Centre.
