The popular Children’s book by Antonia Barber, The Mousehole Cat will be brought to life at Bridport Arts Centre this weekend in a puppet show aimed at children from four years old – to the very grown up!
Inspired by an old folk legend, the story tells of the Cornish fishing village of Mousehole where a storm has been raging for weeks.
Everyone is hungry as the boats cannot leave the harbour to fish so old Tom Bawcock the fisherman and his cat Mowzer set out to sea in their tiny boat, braving the fury of the Great Strom-Cat to try and save the village.
Despite a fearsome gale on the day before Christmas Eve Tom saves the village from starvation, catching seven sorts of fish, enough for everyone to make and enjoy a life-saving, local delicacy – starry gazey pie.
This charming tale, still celebrated each year in the village of Mousehole, is brought to life by carved wooden puppets, coloured shadows, live music, song and a beautiful set.
This latest show from the Devon based company PuppetCraft promises to delight anyone over the age of four years and young at heart as it magically portrays Mousehole’s folk legend and gives everyone a chance to celebrate singing the chorus of “starry- gazey pie”!
