US troops arrive in West Dorset. 80 Years ago, on the 6th November 1943, the 16th Infantry Regiment, part of the 1st Division arrived in Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis. About a 1,000, were billeted in Bridport, West Bay and Walditch. The Bridport History Society is commemorating the event at their November meeting. Jane Ferentzi-Sheppard, Nick Pitt, Robin Stapleton, Cheryl Ludgate and the West Bay Discovery Centre will talk about the places they stayed in and what they did during their seven months stay here, before going off to D-Day.
