ABUSIVE & DRUNKEN

Thanks to the efficiency of Bridport’s Pubwatch scheme, police were able to respond quickly to an incident in one of the town’s pubs last night, Tuesday 10 February 2009, leading to the arrest of three men for public order and drug offences.

More than 20 officers from Bridport, Dorchester and Weymouth, as well as police dogs and their handlers, were called to a large scale disturbance, at the Greyhound pub, East Street, Bridport at 8.15pm.

Officers were met by an abusive and drunken crowd, many whom appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

Police were quickly able to control the situation and two men, aged in their twenties, and from the Bridport area, were arrested for public order and drug offences.

Another man in his twenties, from Swanage, was arrested for a drug offence.

The three men were taken to Weymouth Police Station, where they are helping police with their enquiries.

Officers are now examining CCTV images of the area and gathering evidence.

Section Commander for Bridport, Inspector Alan Jenkins, said: “We were able to respond quickly to this incident, due to the effectiveness of the Pubwatch radio system, which has direct links to the town CCTV system and us.”

Witnesses and anyone with information about the incident should call Dorset Police in confidence on 01202 22 22 22 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.

  1. I find it highly amusing that stories like this are still deemed news worthy! Since when has a regular occurance of a mundane event such as violence, drinking, and the indulgence of Class A Drugs become something worth writing about in good old Bridders eh? You could run the same story every Monday… “”On Friday night all the pubs opened, around 90% of customers became quickly intoxicated, around 50% of customers took their favourite locally-sourced narcotic, around 1% of customers caused a fight that around 5% of customers were affected by, and on Sunday night… the pubs closed”” There… that pretty much covers Bridport, the picturesque sea-side town, raped by the rich, and fucked by the poor. There’s a strap-line for you!
