Explore the River Asker in Bridport and Bradpole Come and walk beside the River Asker with an expert who can explain the fish ladders, the weirs and river management. On Saturday 8 September the newly reformed King Charles Estate Association is organising a walk from Bridport Football Club car park to Happy Island and the fallen tree. Roger Genge, Environment Agency technical officer for the Fisheries Recreation and Biodiversity Group has kindly agreed to lead the walk. He will explain about fish passage projects he designed the new fish ladder at of Jessopps Weir – built as the wish of Friends of Rivers Trust and in particular Captain John Hughes.
Bring your stories to share of what you have spotted on the river, tell us of flora or fauna you can identify and any local history you have special knowledge of. We hope to share a picnic the end of the walk if weather allows! Anyone who would like to come is welcome; we will set off at 3.00pm and meet up from 2.45pm.
Call 01308 421124 if you would like to join us, so we know how many people will be coming. The walk will take just over an hour, please wear suitable footwear and a raincoat if the rain is forecast. Families are welcome and there will be stewards to assist with road crossing, but children will be primarily the responsibility of their parent or accompanying adult.
