Bridport FM radio station invites you to get involved

Exciting plans are afoot for a temporary radio station which will broadcast from Bridport Arts Centre for a week in September. The station is a culmination of a year-long radio programme making project in the community which has seen dozens of people take advantage of the free training offered. Broadcast week will be 17 to 23 September inclusive and the station plans to be on air from 1pm to 8pm daily except for Sunday 23 September when it will run from 1pm to 6pm.

The Bridport FM project is now looking to recruit people to act as presenters, interviewers, studio assistants and general helpers and volunteers are invited to an open meeting to learn more at the arts centre at 8pm on Monday 21 May.

The arts centre’s learning coordinator Kate Wilson said “

We are very keen to start moving things forward and to plan the next few months leading up to broadcast as time will go by very quickly.

To this end we are holding an open meeting at the arts centre for anyone interested in being involved in the radio station in whatever capacity. Everyone is welcome and no prior experience is necessary.”

Plans for the meeting are as follows:

– to establish a small core group of people interested in being involved from now to broadcast week to help with the planning and ground work

– to establish who wants to be involved in the radio station and in what capacity (presenting, interviewing, technical, marketing etc)

– to identify the broadcast and other training we need from our partners Windrose Rural Media Trust

The station will broadcast all the programmes that have been made in the community in the past year, which includes one-off special interest programmes, interviews, new songs composed and sung by local school children and original dramas featuring local actors.

A special ‘Introduction to Interview Technique’ training session will be held by project partners Windrose Rural Media Trust in the BAC cafe between 6 and 8pm on the same night. The free session is aimed at the over 50’s and is supported by Dorset POPP (Dorset Forum for Older People).

Please call Kate Wilson on 01308 427 183 to reserve a place.
