Sustainability writer to speak at land reform discussion in Bridport
What would land reform mean for the UK? At a public meeting titled Land Reform UK, to be held in Bridport this Saturday, farmer and writer Simon Fairlie will discuss issues such as land ownership and current use, planning – how it is and should be, and the reality of sustainability and how it would affect Britain.
Simon Fairlie, a former editor of The Ecologist magazine, has been director of Chapter 7, the planning arm of The Land Is Ours network since 1998. He is currently co-editor of The Land magazine, and author of Low Impact Development: Planning and People in a Sustainable Countryside (1996) and Meat – a Benign Extravagance (2010). His articles appear in The Land, The Ecologist and the national press.
Simon was one of the founders of Tinkers Bubble, a low-impact community near Yeovil in Somerset. He currently earns his living importing Austrian hand scythes into the UK, and keeps dairy cows at Monkton Wyld Court, Dorset.
The meeting, which is open to all, is at 7:00 for 7:30pm on Saturday Sept 8 at the British Legion Hall, Victoria Grove, Bridport. Entry is £4.
