The “Littlesea” – constructed by boatbuilder Gail McGarva to resemble a 17th Century Dorset fishing boat called a lerret – will be at several special events throughout 2011.
Lyme Regis is beginning a year-long celebration of its maritime life, culture and heritage. Maritime Lyme 2011 is launching on the waterfront of Lyme Regis with a programme of family events.
Ms Godwin, curator at the town’s Philpot Museum, added: “All the people and organisations in the town with a connection to the sea have got involved and the project has snowballed from there.”
Mary Godwin said the idea was to “bring together disparate organisations in Lyme Regis on a common theme of relevance to us all – the sea.”
