Ring & Ride Rickshaws is the latest project from Bridport TLC, a volunteer-led initiative to reduce CO2 and Landfill waste in and around the Dorset town.
Bridport TLC has teamed up with local businesses and MAGNA Housing Association to provide two bicycle rickshaws, one for collections and deliveries and one for passengers. The Cargo Rickshaw has been funded by local businessman Clive Groves of Groves Nurseries.
The Passenger Rickshaw has been funded by MAGNA Housing Association whose tenants will benefit from a low cost, carbon-free taxi service in and around town. “The service is primarily aimed at making life easier for many elderly, disabled and vehicle-less people” said Rosie Jones who is co-ordinating the scheme. “Trips to the shops, Health Centre, hospitals and friends sound simple but, to many people they can be expensive and a hassle. We hope that, as well as making an environmental impact, this project will increase the quality of life for many isolated people.”
Magna Housing Association’s Director, David Aldwinckle said “Our Community Initiative Fund which is managed by our tenants Area Panels, are delighted to have granted £4000 to this project. We are sure it will be a great asset to our residents, as well as contributing to lower our carbon footprint.”
The Rickshaws will be ridden by insured and CRB-checked volunteers, licensed through WDDC. The Cargo Rickshaw will begin immediate use while the Taxi version will operate from the start of 2008.

Nothing to do with LES TRES TRICYCLETTO

…the rickshaw can only go a short way (no engine). make people walk, it will do more good for their health and the enviroment. we can all run not for profit busineses by paying ourselves high wages. lets see some form of accounts in the wipwop to show were all the money is going and has gone. whilst on the moan why are the prices in the farmers (yet no farmers in sight) market so high as there are no middle men to take a cut so should be cheaper. if you would like to send £5 cash to me for my name i will refund any profit i make as i run a not for profit business.
“”””Minds of the media”””” is an oxymoron whereas Floppy -Farkwit assumes all who cross his thresh-hold are just morons. Please point out to the media that Axminster is now in Devon-as is HFF, and we can all go back to being blissful in our pre-HFF ignorance.
the RiverCottage business may be based in Axminster now but H.F.W. lives in the little hamlet of Hewood not far from Thorncombe. he is still in Dorset!!
unless people like Pisces and myself plus others give our views, there wouldn’t be any discussions.the complaintant had a lot to say on his side to the whip whot, so why is he trying to silence us on here.has he or they bridport -tlc got somethink to hide. i was told to always stand up and ask questions otherwise everythink will be passed without comment.as bridport-tlc is being funded from our rates we should be able to find out how our money is being spent. regarding the editors last paragrafe i have, nor anywhere on this site, have i ever seen bad mouthing or personal attack
i’m sure the editor is doing a good job on here and i’m sure he would of printed your name with address if you had wanted to.befor you comment next time look in the wip wop as there is an artical saying name and address supplied or withheld, same thing.you must be the same person who wrote in on this site last april.is it full moon again or you only look every six months.just incase you forgot here’s your answer then; 5. Written by Rustic, on Sunday 29 April 2007 You bunch of do-gooder whimpish, apologisers. I can’t believe what I am reading, oooh shall we all have a group hug?? I am frothing up and fuming with indignant and furious rage. I agree that “”””personal”””” abuse is uncalled for, however as it is an anonymous site I don’t know who any-one is so it can hardly be described as “”””personal””””, can it? This is just jousting with keyboards, no-one gets hurt and if the opinions posted get shot to ribbons then good, yahoo, what a laugh, no blood just a frustrated tap on the keyboard and hey presto you are back in the fray. “”””Gid aarn son’er get stuck in there”””” Ed if you let the wooly liberals start whinging about someone who might have been “”””beastly”””” to them and “”””upset them a bit”””” then you had just as well close the site. Have the meek and easily offended considered the fact that there may well be a bit of a wind up going on and that all opinions posted may not be what they appear to be. And another thing, you don’t post up a point that is likely to provoke a heated response and then go running home to mummy or tell the teacher because some people voiced their dislike of your position in a way not of your liking. Ya Wuss if you don’t like it you could always get a rickshaw taxi and ride out of town byeeeeeeeee
Just looked up biodiesel on the unreliable Wikipedia… …Some vehicle manufacturers are positive about the use of biodiesel, citing lower engine wear as one of the fuel’s benefits. Biodiesel is a better solvent than standard diesel, as it ‘cleans’ the engine, removing deposits in the fuel lines. However, this may cause blockages in the fuel injectors if an engine has been previously run on petroleum diesel for years. For this reason, car manufacturers recommend that the fuel filter be changed a few months after switching to biodiesel (the fuel filter, as part of a routine maintenance plan, is generally replaced anyway). Most manufacturers release lists of the cars that will run on 100% biodiesel. Biodiesel is biodegradable and non-toxic, and typically produces about 60% less net-lifecycle carbon dioxide emissions, as it is itself produced from atmospheric carbon dioxide via photosynthesis in plants. However, the smog forming hydrocarbon emissions are 35% greater, and the Nitrogen Oxide emissions are also substantially greater than those from petroleum-based diesel. While this figure can actually differ widely between fuels depending upon production and processing methods employed in their creation, biodiesel is not a panacaea for global warming.
