Road Works – Chideock Hill

Starting on Monday (14 January) Wessex Water will be upgrading an ageing water main, which had experienced frequent bursts, along the A35 (Chideock Hill) for four weeks.

It will involve replacing around 550 metres of iron main which, over past years, had been prone to burst.

Wessex Water staff will work extended hours, throughout the week and during the weekends, to ensure it is completed as quickly as possible.

– work during the first three weeks will be carried out under the use of two-way traffic lights which will be manually controlled

– due to a section of work being carried out on a steep incline, within a crawler lane, a lane closure will be in place between 7.30am – 7.30pm during the last week to maintain safety.

The work is essential to reduce the likelihood of the water main bursting in the future, which had caused significant disruption to motorists.

  1. Mrs
Wessex Water and their team should be thanked for the way they have handles this major job in Chideock. Residents were warned well in advance about what to expect, and warning signs appeared at both ends of the stretch to remind us. the manual lights have been very well controlled and the waits have been sensitively regulated. Warning about water stoppages were also recieived with suitable advice as to whe=at might happen, and here was a telephone no to ring in case of emergency. Bottles of water have been made available in case of problems. I have been so impressed by the whole operation and would like to say a big thank you to those concerned for making so much effort to make what might have been a difficuot time as easy as possible. wonderful to be able to praise an organisation. for their organisation.
