A round-up of Bridport Youth Football Club’s games:
UNDER 8
Bridport started confidently and played some nice football at times. The midfield of Finley Cauldwell, Mannie Wellman ,Harry Cortice and Oliver Hansford-Harvey all linked well together in the midfield creating several good chances with Tom Kilcoyne always a threat up front.
Bridport kept good shape throughout the game with Dillon O’Brien and Toby Pattemore marshalling the defence.
No result can be published as we play in a non competitive league but look forward to our next game at home to Dorchester on the 18th September

UNDER 10
Bridport 6 Weymouth Terras 1
This was a good game played in lovely conditions at Broadwindsor. We started well playing at a high tempo not giving the opposition time to settle, playing at pace and using the wings. We played with a new formation with 3 at the back to allow the full backs to use the wings to create space and opportunities. Oscar and Cole played in the central role and did very well. The first half was hard because we had a lot of possession and created a lot of opportunities, we did get the all important goal just before half time a well worked goal finished by Morgan. Second half saw Archie move to right back and Manny move to the right side of midfield. Both did very well Manny driving forward well and Archie with some very determined tackling which is a real feature of his game.
The second half the goals went in and their heads dropped Isaac caused all sorts of problems, Finlays movement and twists and turns in the penalty box created all sorts of problems and he deservedly got a goal. Morgan played his usual determined game, determined with good movement and a keen eye for goal and he was rewarded with 4 goals.
Grant had little to do but pulled off a great save towards the end diving to his left he held a fierce shot. Ryan was strong and determined at the back and kept things moving he managed to get a goal from a corner.
This was a good team performance full of commitment played at pace using the wings with good movement on and off the ball. We can play better, get crisper and be more clinical in front of goal this was a very good game and all the players can be very proud of their achievements.

Canford Heathlands 2 Bridport 9
Bridport travelled to Poole for the opening game of the season, and after a 100% preseason were on a high.
This soon changed after just ten minutes with Heathlands making the most of the sloping pitch (which was long over due a trim). With the strong wind on their side they grabbed the opening goal of the game – Bridport’s defence were left looking embarrassed by the way they let the number 3 go through them.
You would think this would wake them up! but no they were guilty 5 minutes later of exactly the same.
Bridport did respond twice in the closing mins of the first half one from Tom Hyde and one from a forced own goal so H/T saw the game at 2-2.After the half time talk with some home truths being dished out ,out came Bridport and played as they can keeping Heathlands camped in their end for long periods. Resulting in two goals from Jake Rowland ans a fine hat-trick from new signing Frederick Valinski.
Another goal for Thomas Hyde and a fine goal from another new boy Noah Leo.
So what started as a rude awaking to the new season ended up a good solid result for Bridport U12’s.

Broadstone FC 2 Bridport 5
Bridports first game of the season was away against an unknown quantity in Broadstone FC.
Bridport were made to kick up the sloping pitch in the first half. Broadstone exploited the slope, and in the first 5 minutes were ahead after some sloppy Bridport defending. In truth it was also a well worked moved and Broadstones No 10 smacked and unstoppable shot past Mace Mckenney in goal.
Bridport found it tough going to settle into a rhythm and were panicking on the ball and not playing their normal passing game.
Bridport did have a few half chances but Broadstone were also asking questions.
Refereeing decisions were frustrating both teams and when the home team were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out it was curled home for the second goal and Bridport looked rattled. Edward Butchart was doing his best to keep the defence together with some great tackling and blocks.
From here on in though the visitors started to get hold of the game. Passing football and composure on the ball always work for Bridport and Liam Sayers and Rhys Hayter started to get a grip of the midfield.
Jon Paul Avery was starting to have an influence with his direct running and some commited work allowed him to squeeze in a low cross that Owen Ward finished superbly to halve the defecit.
This had Bridport’s tails up and the half chances started to appear. Avery blazed over when he should have scored, but would make up for the miss minutes later by scoring the equaliser.
Possibly it was a little contentious as one of the Broadstone players lay injured and although Manager Sayers was asking his players to put the ball out, they continued up the field. The ref did not stop the action and the ball ended up with Freddy Woolner who supplied a great cross and Avery converted with a cheeky flick in the six yard box.
Kyle Napier had come on at RB in place of Matt Vrchowsky and the defence looked solid until half time. Butchart impressing and settling into the left back position and excelling.
2-2 at the break.
Now in the second half Bridport could use the slope to their advantage, and were pretty dominant for the second 35 minutes. Dylan Allen and the defence sweeping up nicely and keeping the home attacks to a minimum.
Owen Ward scored the third goal with a neat header from a well delivered Sayers cross. A deserved brace for Ward who always runs all game and its great to see him amongst the goals.
Bridport were now playing the football that makes them a dangerous attacking team, and should have made more of the opportunities they created. Caine Lydon and Avery on the wings causing problems and creating these chances.
Woolner then crossed and inch perfect ball that Sayers guided into the far corner for 4-2.
Rhys Hayter was playing through the pain barrier and scored a superb individual goal. Some good work in midfiled that involved Lewis Middleton, Owen Ward and Woolner allowed Hayter to break down the left, take on the full back and cut into the box. He then curled a lovely right footed effort into the far top corner.
Hayter had done his job and was withdrawn to rest his back.
Matthew Ward came on a centre back, Tyman James at left back for the impressive Butchart and Middleton went into midfield.
Matthew Vrchowsky came on in place of Lydon who also had a great game and his tracking back snuffed out several attacks.
This was a good performance for the first game of the season. We need to shake off the early game jitters and be more confident. When we play with the ball on the floor we look impressive.
Edward Butchart and Jon Paul Avery were my choices for players that really raised their games today. The players went for Butchart for MOM this week.
Well done to all the players. 3 points and top of the league, lets stay there next week by beating the Terras at home.
