Bridport Museum are this month launching an exciting new photographic competition. It is aimed at capturing the essence of the Dorset market town, as seen through the eyes of everyone who calls it home.
The Museum already has a huge catalogue of images charting the last 150 years of the town, but is keen to ensure that future generations can enjoy looking back on our times in and around the town.
The competition is being organised by museum volunteers Katy Star Stocker and Nigel Finn.
Capture the Essence of Bridport
Katy said: “Bridport has such a rich history and dramatic setting. Its a brilliant place to go out and about with a camera and take some pictures. We’re really looking to looking through all the entries, though I imagine judging will be difficult.”
Museum curator, Alice Martin added; "As more and more of us are able to take pictures, with anything from traditional film cameras right through to our mobile phones, there is a great opportunity for all of us to capture the essence of Bridport the way we see it, for future generations to enjoy.”
“Images should be taken in and around Bridport and West Bay area, but mostly should be a reflection of how you see your town! And remember, this is a family competition and exhibition so photographs which are felt unsuitable for family viewing will not be accepted.”
“So go out, be as creative as you want, and send us your photos of Bridport as you will remember it.”
Competition Categories
Prizes will be awarded in three categories, aged 17 and under, and over 17 years and for photos taken with mobile phones open to all ages. The competition is open until July 15th, 2009. Application forms can also be collected from Bridport Museum, South Street or online from www.bridportmuseum.co.uk
