Atypical Girl – An Evening with Penny Kiley. Thursday 6 August, 7pm — Oxenburys Yard, Gundry Lane, Bridport DT6 3RL
This one’s special, Penny Kiley was there when punk exploded in Liverpool in 1977, right at the heart of it at Eric’s Club, and later a Melody Maker journalist with a front-row seat to some of British music’s most electric moments. She’s just published her memoir, Atypical Girl, and she’s coming to Bridport to talk about it.
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, The Cramps and more all make an appearance in her memories of the time.
Penny will be interviewed live by Graham Jones, a familiar face who works with us here at Clocktower from time to time, and who’s spent more years around record shops than almost anyone in the country,
followed by an audience Q&A where you can ask her anything about Eric’s, the Liverpool scene, or her career. She’ll be signing copies of the book on the night too.
Then it’s over to a fun punk quiz to round off the evening, no prizes, just bragging rights and a good excuse to test how much you really know. There’s also a charity auction of signed vinyl and a selection of records you can take home for a donation, with everything raised going to War Child and Nordoff Robbins.
Tickets: £5.00 here Clocktower Records: An Evening with Penny Kiley | Oxenburys Yard | Thursday 06 August – Bridport & West Bay
