Eype Centre for the Arts presents three illustrious operatic stars in a summer concert of favourite operatic works at St. Peter’s, Eype next Saturday June 27th with internationally recognised pianist and singer Arwel Treharne Morgan on piano.
Tenor Amos Christie who made his professional debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as First Nobleman Lohengrin is to be accompanied in duets by local star Virginia King who is currently an artist on the English National Opera ‘Opera Works’ Artists Programme and the rare mezzo voice of Maria Jones whose recent engagements include the title role of Carmen for Clonter Opera. With her rich creamy voice Maria is also very much at home in the smoky jazz repertoire which enables her to perform as a crossover artist with ease and her performance brings together her talents as a dancer, actress and singer.
Aside from some Tchaikovsky and a piano solo from Arwel Treharne Morgan, the programme will be almost entirely excerpts from the most famous and loved operas with the whole of the La Bohéme love scene (including ‘Your tiny hand is frozen’) and arias from Carmen (including the ‘Flower song’), complete with Finale! Ombra Mai Fu, otherwise known as Handel’s Largo, Porgi Amor (Marriage of Figaro), Una Fortiva Lagrima – L’elisir d’amore, a scene from Samson and Delilah is a sample of the other arias and duets to be included in the evening’s entertainment.
We are particularly lucky that our local International Operatic Star Virginia King has been able to attract such talent to Eype. Virginia and her colleagues and friends who will appear with her are all very experienced and well regarded musicians and singers who have performed with some of the best opera houses and Oratorio platforms in the world.
It promises to be a wonderful evening and it follows from last year’s very successful soiree by Opera Artists. The concert will take place in St. Peter’s itself but if the evening is fine we are planning to extend the interval for the audience to enjoy the spectacular setting of St. Peter’s and their own picnics. We shall of course be offering refreshments in any case.”
