Arts Centre Revamp

The first phase of Bridport Art Centre’s redevelopment begins on Monday 9 August. Dorset firm Jordan and Faber will be undertaking the work which will include repainting the façade, restoring it to its original 1830s colours, relaying the paving stones and generally smartening up the building.

Director Lindsay Brooks said, “We are very aware that the Arts Centre not only plays a key role culturally but also architecturally in Bridport. The building has not been redecorated for several years so is certainly showing its age.  We’re so grateful that our fundraising has been supported so generously, enabling us to create a smarter forecourt area.”

Following the original appearance in 1830s engravings, Arts Centre staff have decided to remove the planting areas so the forecourt can become a more open, useable space for Bridport.   They will be recycling the plants already there and are working with the Town Council and the Community oRrchard to create and plant some mobile containers from recycled timber. The rejuvenated Arts Centre will be ready in time for the Arts Centre members party on Sunday 26 September.
