While the UK public expresses respect for those who lost their lives in two world wars, Stanley Kubrick’s feature film highlights the incompetent leadership, callousness towards rank-and-file soldiers and bureaucratic dishonesty that cost many of those lives.

The French General Staff orders Colonel Dax to take Ant Hill at any cost. A blatant suicide mission, the attack is doomed to failure. Covering up their fatal blunder, the Generals charge three soldiers, chosen by lot, with cowardice and mutiny. Dax, a lawyer in civilian life, rises to their defence but soon realises that, unless he can prove the Generals were to blame, he cannot save his men from the firing squad.

Kirk Douglas stars in this classic drama set in WWI, an “unforgettable movie experience”.
