Bullshit Baffles Brains – New book launched telling veterans’ story for the first time
The latest book by Dorset author Christopher Jary has been launched at a reunion of the Dorset Regiment Old Comrades Association.
The book entitled Bullshit Baffles Brains follows the success of They Couldn’t Have Done Better (The Story of the Dorset Regiment 1939-67).
This time Christopher Jary has teamed up with Dick Eberlie – who served as a subaltern with the 1st Dorsets in Hong Kong 1952-53 – and together they have written the untold story of the veterans.
Christopher Jary said: “The book tells the story of a Dorset Regiment battalion – primarily of young National Servicemen – in the days of withdrawal from Empire – guarding Hong Kong and training to join the war with Communist China in Korea, where several of their fellow Dorsets were prisoners of the Chinese. In August 1954 the Battalion moved to Korea while some its men were sent to fight the Communist bandits in Malaya. The veterans are now in their 80s and this is the first time their story has been told.”
The launch was attended by Mrs Jennie Jeapes (nee White), who is the daughter of the Dorsets’ Commanding Officer, Colonel Knocker White DSO – to whom the book is dedicated.
The new book is now available from Waterstones, Dorchester and from the Keep Military Museum, Barrack Road, Dorchester, DT1 1RN.
