CSI: BRIDPORT

SCENE 1
A man is found by a dog walker in a crop field, he has obviously been run over by a tractor as he is squashed across the middle and you can see the imprint of the the tractor tyre marks in what is left of his torso. There is an empty bottle of scrumpy lying by his side.
Pretty cut and shut case you might think…

CUT TO IMAGINED FLASHBACK OF WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED…
The guy is drunk, he's still swigging his scrumpy taking a shortcut (From no 10) across a field.  He passes out through excess alcohol consumption in the middle of the long crops in the field.  In the early morning light the tractor driver who is used to bumpy fields and is listening to 'Who's Afear'd' on his IPOD doesn't notice running over him. But it is not as it seems…

back in the mortuary the forensics start their work, the man is identified as a well known member of the community, he has won prizes for his giant marrows, his wife is the chair of the WI and he is head dancer of the villages group of morris dancers and he doesn't usually drink!  The forensics only find a small trace of alcohol in his bloodstream.  He appears to have died by asphyxiation – so someone must have killed him and have staged a cover up, but who and why?

Forensics examine a drop of cider left in the bottom of the bottle – a very rare breed of apple!  Through the 'Bridport Radio' archives they find an article about this apple, it is called "Old Rosy Cheeks" and it is only used to brew cider in one place – The Morris Inn.

THE MORRIS INN…
Mac and Horatio interview the regulars at the Morris Inn, they all know the victim and seem shocked and upset.  They explain that it is the final of the West Country massed Morris Dancing Championship and The Morris Inn were set to win, but who would now take the place of their lead dancer? No-one wants to do apart from the butcher who normally takes the part of the fool, and seems overly keen.

BACK AT FORENSICS…
The team find a small piece of identified matter in the victims mouth, they run it trough their superduper computer and it identified as pigs bladder, now why would someone place pigs bladders in the Vic's mouth, unless it was used to suffocate him!  The team rack their brains 'Pigs Bladder' 'butcher' 'the morris dancers fool – he runs around with an inflated pigs bladder on a stick.  They suspect the butcher, but how do they catch him?

BUTCHERS SHOP…
Mac goes in disguise and asks for a pound of tripe, his hygiene standards are not paramount and the butcher uses his bare hands to wrap up the tripe.

BACK AT FORENSICS…
The butchers prints are dusted, they match prints from the cider bottle found next to the victim.

The team arrest the butcher, knowing he is caught he confesses; he was fed up of coming second in the marrow competition, but more so he is fed up of only playing the fool at the morris dancing competition and wanted to take the lead – who's the fool now!

END CREDITS…
Mac and co are sitting on hay bales in a tractor trailer, going off into the distance whilst the Who's 'The Magic Bus' is playing.
