FREE PARKING

Due to the increasing debate about car parking in the town centre we at Bridport Radio have got involved and at no expense to ourselves are now able to bring you the motorists Free Parking in Bridport!

1. Rax Lane: In front of the old BT Exhange. The sign says not to park there, but hey…no one's been done since 2003 at least.
2. Rax Lane: Behind the new Bridport Sports shop. Ever since someone took down the 'no parking' sign, it's a two space free for all! Just keep yer valuables hidden. Chavs and scabby kids activity is rife on Globe Lane.
3. Rax Lane: Christian Science not your thing? Well at least they provide a "Private" Carpark for you to use when they're not in. Which seems to be all the time except Saturday mornings.

C'mon everyone tell us where to go for free parking or, indeed what should be done to alleviate the problem…

1. Free for All
Another few great free parking spots are the Bus stops outside of Woolies, Nat West and Frosts. Just park anywhere in the bus stop and get out saying “””” I will only be a minute”””” thus gaining the admiration of bus drivers who have to double park in the middle of the street holding up all the traffic, the passangers who have to walk further than required to get on the bus and of course all the happy car drivers who have been held up while you selfish toe rags ignore the rules of common decency to save 20p on the car parks. NB this is only free when the wardens are not here. (does anyone know there shift patterns as then free parking could be extended to all the double yellow lines in the town).

2. Safeway
If your really desperate for somewhere to park without paying, you could always work off the calories earned at the pub last night by walking up in to town from Morrisons! Most of the grockles do so why shouldn’t the locals!

3. I agree 6of1 the Bridport news is an absolute farce! I now use the wip-wop as a tool to teach my daughter how not to spell and type! The amount of errors is appauling! Even though, it does keep my incredibly active child quiet for hours looking for errors that a very basically educated person could find without that much thought!

4. parking bays
Re. Draino’s comment – parking properly – I’d like to see parking bays marked out, one for each car to encourage people to use just one space. Perhaps they could be like those handy zig zag bays in town for vans. They’re easy to spot, someone has kindly put big white stripes across the road. There’s a new one in North Allington for delivery and collection at the chemist.

5. The old ship yard off south Street always used to be handy for a parking space, cant say I have parked there for a while tho. I know several other secret spots but I am not tell everyone else where they are, as i wont be able to park on a sturday……lol

6. If we narrowed the pavements in Bridport we could have “”””straight-in”””” parking like they do in Oz because they’re all too clumsy to parallel park. The spaces are all marked out at a 45 degree angle to the road. You just steer into them, and reverse out. Actually nah…that wouldn’t work. Because we’re not clumsy Australians, we’re British! The Empire wasn’t built by complaining that parking spaces aren’t clearly marked out! It was built on cunning, creative thought, inginuity and brute force! Park where you can…and don’t let the council charge you for it!

7. You can park for free in any of the areas designated beauty spots. Unfortunatly this also seems to be a smash and cash point for the thieving junkie scum that broke into my mates van on Eggardon the other day. I don’t want to sound my age but hanging is too good for them

8. Don’t take it too seriously….!
Just to warn members/readers of our illustrious BridportRadio site. Please don’t take parking suggestions too serously. For instance: 1.Don’t park behind the new Sports Shop. YOU WILL GET CLAMPED OR TOWED. Believe me! 2.The Christian Science park is private property and you ‘could’ get towed. I’ve seen cars that have parked there blocked in, so that they cannot be removed, sometimes for two days! 3.Park in a bus stop by all means. If you’ve got £200 for the fine if the parking enforcement officer happens to be around. (Note: Their duty shifts are staggered, so no one knows when they’ll be around. Not even our own Town Council, they are employed by a private company, a ‘Parking Enforcement Agency’ from Blandford.) Enjoy our town, but don’t get stung for a parking fine. Oh, by the way, our Town Council have nothing to do with the running of our car parks, or get any revenue from them. Got a moan? Then contact West Dorset District Council in Dorchester.

9. Nectar of the gods or the urine of yeast
Beer being the result when a yeast dies in the toxicity of it’s own alcoholic piss. As for Palmers crap beer and ever increasing prices – can I suggest that homebrewing could well be an answer. I think if Bridport Radio were to stage a homebrew competition much like the powerstock cider festival, it would give us all something to aim for and then we could get in the habit of trading ales amongst ourselves eliminating the benfit for both palmers and the tax man? What d’you reckon?

10. RE: SLOW DOWN!
I live in Barrack Street, and as such have to drive over the St. Andrews speed ‘mountains’ 4 times a day. I am sure they are ruining my suspension as the are so abrupt! If the speed limit is 20mph, surely it’s my human right to travel at up to 20mph, and if so then the council are infringing on my human rights by making me slow to 5mph so I don’t push my wheels trough my bonnet! Incidentally, the speed humps were installed one week before the end of the councils budgetary year… had a bit of cash left over that they had to use or loose it in next years budget did we? Let’s start a petition to have them smoothed a bit at least. As for the rest of the Bridport roads, what do we get for the council tax & road tax we pay? Oh I know… over inflated pensions for council employees! Rant, rant!!!!

11. RE: ENVIRONMENT WATCH
I just scoured the above article for a punch line but to my dismay it looks like it’s a serious piece of journalism. All I can say is I hope the two pilots are compensated for the removal of excess white lines. That stuff’s not cheap you know!

12. RE: FREE PARKING
If you have a van you can also double park outside any shop in town claiming to be ‘On a delivery’,whilst you nip into a bakery/shop to get your dinner. Don’t forget to open your drivers door just as one of the half mile cue behind you try to get past !!

13. RE: RESTAURANT REVIEWS
I love chips me – But goddammit Longs you always have to wait ages and then the chips are either pale and undercooked or have been refried from yesterday, how hard can it be to take a bit of care when deep frying the spud?

14. The more astute members of bridport radio may have noticed that the skagheads/moffits who frequent the town generally have a problem with walking in a straight line. This is due to an imbalance in the cerebal cortex of the brain caused by shrinkage of the left frontal lobe which in turn is cause by using illegal drugs. The resulting imbalance which causes the aforementioned skagheads/moffits to walk, nay STAGGER to the left, may be amusing to watch, but it is by no means amusing to the poor shopkeepers who lose merchandise due to ‘community shopping’. This tendancy to stagger to the left can be completely cured by placing a small weight (made of lead) behind the right ear of the poor afflicted skaghead/moffit. Application is of said ‘small lead weight’ is delivered using a high volocity rifle complete with telescopic sights. I would like to go out on a limb here, and offer my services to the fine town people of Bridders. I would be happy to ‘scope out’ as it were, the offending skagheads/moffits and deliver the cure from my comfy belltower chair. The recipients could consider this their special Christmas Prezzy. No voucher required.

15. Become a Police officer, they park for free to the rear of the station while the Police cars can park for free in the Long Stay car park, sometimes up to 8 of them, genius. The rest of us will soon be pay £500 for the same privilege!

16. Free parking is available throught the main street between 2:45pm and 4:30pm school term times only on Wednesdays. One has plenty of time to nip out of the car do the weekly shop without even pulling over to the side of the road. Don’t worry about holding up the traffic. It won’t have moved before your return.

17. Your website re Free Parking is completely incorrect about the Private land in front of the Christian Science Society in Rax Lane Bridport. The Reading Room and premises are frequently, and daily used by the members and church attenders..who possibly because of your very incorrect information, now find it difficult to park on our own premises, due to illegal and inconsiderate parking. How would you, or other people, like it if complete strangers parked on your/their drives, completely blocking them out of their own property and homes??

18. Good to know the “”Christian”” spirt is alive and well in Bridders. PS Information person is it you guys that stop me parking on street in Rax Lane opposite the car park for free on Sundays grrr….or maybe its the Devil worshipers(Conservative club)!!

19. The information is not “completely incorrect” is it now? No monetary charge for parking is made, so it is FREE, meaning in this case as been provided without, or not subject to, a charge or payment. Mary Baker Eddy said “Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it.” So stop bellyaching let us all have happiness and share the free parking, and if you got blocked in go back in and read something, easy eh. Anyhow what’s the deal on joining and getting the entitlement to ‘legal’ parking, do you have to read the stuff you provide or can I bring my own?
