What Bridders needs is a Patron Saint. That way not only would be all be watched over and cared for by someone on a higher plane, but we would also be able to sell souveniers to the grockels.
To start the ball rolling I would like to nominate St Cummings of Bridders' (AKA Les Cummings the now retired community police officer). I can just see PC Cummings now dressed in angelic white with arms outstretched in calm contemplation, (possibly with a pork pie from Hussey's in one hand and a rolled up copy of the Bridport News on the other).
Of course he would have to do a few miracles before he was allowed to be the patron saint of Bridders. Maybe turning Palmer's beer into proper beer like wot they have up North, or 'driving the gulls out of Bridport' (Which has already been done, but it was snakes and it was in Ireland).

Well it's a bit like my LOCAL HEROES bit and don't you have to be dead to be a saint? (Les won't be pleased). – Ed

NOOOOO! There are too many people that depend on the tourist trade and investments in their homes etc. to put Bridport on the map in a bad light! I’d rather we weren’t on the map AT ALL to be honest, but I’d rather have Huge Furry Whittling Stool spouting off about how nice it is, rather than a bunch of scabby, glue-sniffing, shoplifting chav kids that would celebrate in their free accommodation should they learn that they get to represent Bridport on national telly. ITV!? It’s even a CHAV CHANNEL for Chrissakes!
RE: PATRON SAINT
Rex Trevett? He was pretty cool, got me into Jean Michel Jarre.
RE: LOCAL HEROES
maybe we should leave Rob Ridge … A Ridge… It’s only a long, narrow elevation of land; a chain of hills or mountains. Or an animals back.
RE: PATRON SAINT
Maybe we could arrange for a sniper to pick off that market trader who parks his white van on the junction of the traffic lights outside the town hall on market days. Then he could be the patron saint of bridders, as well as the patron saint of masonic handshakes which result in him never being booked.

The Bat! you should see your doctor about the possibility that you may have a severe form of obsessive compulsive disorder (Transitus sniperus).
