BRIDDERS ON TV

We are growing excited by the increasin use of Bridport in TV and the media, why only the other day I was watching a Divvy Dee called Confetti (starring Tim from the office) and in it a couple of nerdy characters mentioned Bridders in a slightly derogatory fashion, we are all aware of West Bay as the setting for harbour lights and Huge Fearless Whitingsthorpe eating all of our road kill live on Channel 4, but can you recall any other incidences of Bridport in the movies or the TV? Was an episode of The Professionals filmed in Gundry Lane, are the rumours of Woody Allen scouring the area for locations true? Is Deal or No Deal recorded live at DaVinci's? The Goodies filmed in Bridders using the stone wall in the South Street car park of what used to be The Volunteer Inn. They made lots of smoke pretending it was fog and climbed up ladders. This was in the late 1970s so probably the same time as Parnham.

what was that series called….wycleffs babies…rockliffs babies…well that featured bridport once. i am sure emerdale is filmed at pymore (which is sort of bridders. also, there is a scene in Troy where they first land on the beach (you know where pitts boat speeds ahead and lands before the king dude lands.) well that is really westbay. and then there is computer games… Grand theft auto III was originally based around Bridport. The popular online game called Runescape features a few villages that are laid out the same as westbay, burton and eype. ok so i have a good imagination, but one of the above is true…which is it? The chariot race in Ben Hur was filmed in Bridport. The chariot track was actually a circuit of South Street, Sea Road South and West Street. The film producers erected scaffolding along Sea Road South and packed it with extras in period costume who cheered madly every time a chariot (contructed from coverted Robin Reliants) drove past. The dolphins lap counters which were used in the film were later smashed up to make hardcore rubble which was used as a foundation for the drugtakers memorial bench which now graces our town at the junction of West and East Street. Also the galley slave scenes were filmed in Westbay. The bit where Charlton Heston is afloat on a piece of wreckage with Jack Hawkings was filmed in the sports centre swimming pool. They mixed gravy powder in the water and put a big sky coloured backdrop behind the actors.
