Charlie Bicknell sings Jazz Cabaret

Described by the Guardian as ‘The Jessica Rabbit of Jazz,’ Charlie Bicknell will be returning to Sladers Yard on Friday 20th July with her unique and entertaining take on the popular songbook.

Fusing smoky jazz with bitter-sweet cabaret, Charlie and pianist David Harrod put on a sparkling new show, which includes an optional supper in a cabaret style setting in the new café

Elegant Charlie’s rich and powerful vocals have been heard at jazz venues all over the world, including Ronnie Scotts and Pizza in the Park, and she has garnered consistently buoyant national press reviews (‘Darkly brilliant’ Independent on Sunday.) Her set combines well known numbers from jazz and musicals, as well as mixing darker songs by Kurt Weill with humorous pieces such as Ealing Broadway Baby by Dillie Keane of Fascinating Aida.

Charlie’s last show at Sladers Yard was a sold-out hit, and the intimate venue proved a perfect setting for her brand of bring-the-house-down cabaret.

Multi-talented Charlie is also a trained aerialist, actor and dancer, and her sets are punctuated with her wicked sense of humour and show-stopping costume changes.  Expect a spontaneous night of gorgeous songs and first class entertainment.

‘Charlie Bicknell combines a gloriously dark sense of humour with an amazing voice. A great, fun night out not to be missed.’ Sue Arnold The Observer.

‘A classy young chanteuse in whom sex and wit, style and charm make a high octane mix.  Enjoy the ride.’ Godfrey Smith. The Times
