Foundling Voices From April 21 Lyme Regis Museum has an exhibition on tour from London’s Foundling Museum. Celebrating the link between Lyme and the Foundling Hospital, established by the distinguished son of Lyme Thomas Coram, the exhibition focuses on oral history recordings of former pupils.
Hear the actual voices of the former pupils of the Foundling Hospital recounting their stories of life before, during and after their time in the institution. Stories range from the heartbreak of leaving their foster family, to the laughter of recalled childhood mischief; from the excitement and fear of going out into the world at the age of fourteen, to meeting unknown brothers and sisters and finding love and happiness with a family of their own.
To accompany the exhibition the museum has an animated film about the life of Thomas Coram by local Woodroffe School student Donna Wiscombe.
The exhibition is in the museum’s ground floor gallery until May 31.
