The first of The Bull’s ‘Hayloft Sessions’, a new night of live music featuring up and coming acts from around the country, will take place on Thursday 9th June above The Stable.
The first ‘Hayloft Session’ will feature live electronica/indie act Clock Opera and alt-blues singer/songwriter Lucy9mm.
Clock Opera
Clock Opera are a four-piece band from London, who make extraordinarily accessible electronic alt-pop music, inspired by the likes of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. As well as these avant-pop tendancies they also have the ability to create a wall of sound and noise that stands them in good stead with the best live acts. Frontman Guy Connelly is already revered in music circles for his remixes (for Tracey Thorn, The Drums, Everything Everything) but is now getting the recognition he deserves for his own music – a wonderful blend of fragile songwriting, atmospheric soundscapes and crisp electronica.
The band have just released their new single ‘Belongings’ on Moshi Moshi, the beautiful video for which was part shot in the countryside around Bridport. The single has been record of the week on Radio One and BBC 6 Music. The band will be playing several of the big festivals this summer, including Wireless and Field Day – but wanted to do a special warm up concert in Bridport, where they regularly rehearse and record.
Lucy 9mm
Lucy9mm is a Bridport based singer/songwriter who has been making waves locally and nationally with her blues-influenced live performances. She is currently finishing a new album with her band of the same name, recorded in California and being mixed at Bridport studio ‘The Museum Down Below’. Her solo shows demonstrate her alt-rock and blues influences which combine with a more evocative, narrative songwriting style.
“The Hayloft Sessions” are to become a regular feature at The Bull Hotel, who intend to bring the Hayloft venue back to the glory days of the past, when it was renowned for its great live music and played host to many famous names.
