A very special concert of songs from West Dorset and the Bride Valley
30th December 3.00 – 4.30pm Bridport WI Hall – £5.00 to include tea & cake!
Two years ago an album of songs ‘Turn Towards Me’ celebrating our beautiful corner of Dorset was recorded in Bridport. Some were self-penned and some from a book of poetry written by Burton Bradstock resident, Douglas Northover. Douglas spent much of his life in Dorset’s Bride Valley and, through his poetry, brought his love of the place and people to life. After his death, a copy of his poems was presented to David Powell, then Headteacher of Burton Bradstock School. David and young friends Rosi Brewster and Emma Batchelor put some to music, performing them in Bridport and the Bride Valley. The concerts were very well received and the band, including teacher, Simon Douglas were invited to perform them at Sidmouth Folk Festval.
Rosi and Emma will be home from university over Christmas and they and David bring these and other songs celebrating the importance of home and family to a special concert at Bridport’s WI Hall on the afternoon of Friday 30th December from 3.00 – 4.30pm. David, Emma and Rosi are pleased to welcome Bridport musician, Lauren Glover to the lineup. Lauren brings keyboard and voice to the arrangements. All profits from the concert will go towards supporting the work of Home-Start West Dorset – a local charity which gives friendship, advice and practical support to families who live in the West Dorset District Council area.
Tickets £5.00 each available in advance from Barbara 01308 897389 or from Bridport Music Shop.
