Well if they are giving Pugh a bench, what are they going to dedicate to the guy who’s taken over his patch and only holds a piece of cardboard – a school? BTW is it not illegal to beg? he would be better off off his butt and out trying to better his situation, Plenty of people have a hard life and try to make it better, Pugh selling The Big Issue for example, but not many get a public memorial – This outpouring of sentiment is just onanism. BENCHMARK DECISION

INSULT TO INJURY
While I don’t condemn the “”christian gesture”” of a memorial bench, Is it not an insult to Pugh for the amount of money a bench costs given to a live homeless person might make a real difference to their LIFE.
Location, location, location
What a terrible place to put a bench, why did they not put it under the town hall arches where the benches used to be? Answer: Because homeless people might bed down on them. Ironic or just cruel?
In my humble opinion, i feel that a bench would of been better suited to a true Bridport legend who benefited the community(there are too many to mention), rather than a person who was not here 5 minutes. It is also a shame there is not a decent pleace for it also.
I think it is pretty much out of order, and in some ways when you think about it…an insult to Bridports many sons and daughters that have lost their lives. But then again what do we know , after all we are only what makes bridport… it’s town folk
Emotional Drivel
So a memorial bench for a dead smack addict who had been in the town hawking his magazine for a few months, I was so upset I had to reach for a big tissue. Surely it would have been more appropriate to have errected a copy of Cleopatra’s Needle. On it could be carved the names of the thousands of people whose lives have been ruined by exposure to heroin either as users, families of users or as a result of the crimes that go to fund the habit. have had
There’s no H in Bridport News
It is common knowledge that the Big Issue bloke, Martin Pugh, died from one hit too many so why does an extremely tactless and insensitive Bridport News run a front page story? Sorry, front AND back! Although ironically the Bridport News usually lacks anything remotely news-worthy I thought this gratuitous report demeaned a person’s unfortunate death. The report actually goes on to say that this is the 4th heroin death in 4 months. So…I guess the Bridport paparatzi didn’t jump on the others because they didn’t sell the Big Issue? Selling the Big Issue is a step forward for many people, but if it means the story of your untimely death will be splattered all over the front page of the weekly rag, why bother? I am also seething about the fact that no matter how insignificant the Bridport News just HAS to print on behalf of the ludricrous BNP whenever possible! It’s like their trying to deliberatly poke Billy Bragg into a rant. I’m saving that one for the postbag.
In response to Husskeys comment of the 24/3, (Removed for being too offensive – Ed) the ‘drug addict’ who in fact does have a name, Martin Pugh, was homeless with little opportunity in life due to his problems, still tried to make the most of his situation by selling the big issue in this town. Im sure we can all think of a lot of people in this town who sit on their arses doing nothing and expecting the state to support them. I expect Husskey does not know what its like to have to struggle and live on a park bench, judging by his/her comments! I knew Martin personally and if anyone was deserving of a bench in his honour it was him.
