The Garden Competition, organised by the Melplash Agricultural Society, is open to all residents within a 12 mile radius of Melplash Village Church. The only stipulation is that they must not employ a gardener for more than 8 hours per week. Gardens and allotments of any size can be entered and there are prizes for the best large, medium and small, as well as an overall winner. The gardens this year will be judged by last year’s winners Mrs J Allen, from Corscombe and Mr John Harvey from Bridport. Judging will take place on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th June. The gardens or allotments will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Condition
- All round interest/cropping schemes
- Quality of crops, flowers, plants
- Originality of layout and planting
- Ingenuity in overcoming local problems
- Any special features
The competition is free to enter. Closing date for entries is 5pm on Wednesday 13th June.
