New path helps everyone enjoy the wildlife of Bridport's Jellyfields. Families with small children and people with limited mobility will be among those able to enjoy better access to Jellyfields Local Nature Reserve outside Bridport thanks to a newly resurfaced circular path.
Dorset County Council's Dorset Countryside Service has just finished refurbishing the easy access path, which allows people with pushchairs and mobility vehicles to access the woodland site and enjoy the local wildlife.
There will be an official opening of the new path on Tuesday 1 June at 10am, where the rangers will be on site to answer questions about their conservation and access work. All are welcome to attend.
Dorset Countryside area ranger, Lawrence Weston, said:
"The existing path was always very muddy, even in the summer, excluding access to all but the fittest and most intrepid. Now we hope that more people will be able to enjoy the reserve and appreciate their local natural environment."
The Jellyfields site consists of grasslands, Alder woodland, a stream and a small pond and is located alongside Lower Walditch Lane. The site is managed by Dorset Countryside on behalf of West Dorset District Council.
Local councillors, staff, parents and children from the nearby Sunny Days Nursery and residents of the Hyde residential home have been invited to come along and enjoy the newly improved access on Tuesday. Perhaps someone could have the answer to the mysterious question, 'Why is Jellyfields called Jellyfields?'
The new path is part of a project that will also see the development of the site as a local education and community participation resource.
