A new innovative website called the LGBT Collective has been launched that aims to promote the wide range of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans resources available across the South West peninsula. The website address is www.LGBTCollective.org.uk and has a directory of groups and projects across the peninsula, an events diary and local LGBT news.
This brand new resource is the first of its kind in the country and has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
As well as being a key new website resource, the Collective is also a physical body of LGBT groups and projects who come together to discuss issues that matter for them and work on campaigns that highlight issues important to LGBT people and communities.
The launch of this site is our first campaign and aims to raise the profile of the many resources available and to get information to rurally isolated people across the peninsula.
Ian Thomson from the Dorset Lesbian and Gay Helpline said, “This new Collective website is fantastic. This is the first time we have had a specific resource like this that has been designed by, & for our own communities. It will enable everyone to see the wide range of lesbian, gay, bisexual & trans groups & projects across the South West peninsula. I think people will be amazed at the sheer range of groups out there, & the number of activities that they arrange & support for the LGBT community.”

Paul Roberts, Intercom’s Community Development Manager went on to say, “We hope that by promoting this information, isolated LGBT people will find out there are resources in the peninsula for them. For example, the Dorset helpline provides an excellent resource for LGBT people in need across the County and the Dorset Chillout is a great once a month social event taking place in Dorchester.”
Paul went on to say, “People may see a gap for new groups and projects to develop and if this is the case, we encourage them to get in touch. We are here to help see these things happen!”
The website is facilitated by The Intercom Trust, a peninsula based LGBT community-led charity and has been developed using money from the Big Lottery Fund. Intercom’s Community Development Team work closely with the groups to provide them with information, support and resources.
