Traffic Troubles

Everyone knows that traffic movement is slow in Bridport not least of all because pedestrians can freeze the town hall lights when they want to wander across the road. Westbound traffic in East Street (still with me?) is often at a standstill because the two crossings near HSBC and Chez Cuddy are uncontrolled so even if you've got a green light at the town hall you can't move until a ped gets off the crossing in front of you!

Why not have stop/go lights on the crossings linked to the main lights? Or teach people to jay walk properly instead of leaping onto crossings without looking, often pram first!

 1. Traffic troubles?!? Don’t talk to me about traffic troubles. When are the town council going to STOP renting pitches to stall holders on a market day that are just downright dangerous? First we have white van man loading and unloading his van while parked on the traffic lights (i.e. BANG ON the junction blocking an ENTIRE LANE of traffic) outside the town hall (because he’s been rented a pitch there), and then we have stalls on both sides of pedestrian crossings, strategicly placed so that motorists can’t see any pedestrian intending to cross the road (accident waiting to happen). And what about zig zags?!? I have never known a town that collectively ignores the zig zag road markings on crossings. I seen delivery vans regularly parked on zig zags, and the drivers seem to hold the belief that if they put their hazard warning lights on then 3 points on their driving licences and a fine doesn’t apply. Then we have cyclists on the pavement! Presumably these urban kamikazi types ride on the pavement because the traffic on the road is so bad, so they thoughtfully inflict traffic danger to pedestrians who naively think they’re safe on the pavement (you remember the pavement, it’s that long narrow area designed for people who walk so that they don’t get hit by anyone driving cars or riding bikes). A pedestrain crossing every 20 yaRds, that whAt BriDders neEdS! ThAt woUld SOrt ‘eM oUt!! NaiL ’em tO tHe WaLls of tHe tOwn haLL with siX inCh mETaL sPiKes !!! NAIL sOme SeNSe INto tHEm !!!! 2. and to think this charming town not so long ago had horse drawn vehicles and no traffic lights to anger people (Butan doesnt either) Get out and walk, leave your car at home, or take the roads that have been made to go round the town, and never mind the diet, you wont need it if you walk!

 3. Traffic public-enemy number 1 has to be the lights at Palmers. Coming from town, they’re green for 7 seconds, from Morrisons, 5 seconds for left turn then a further 10 seconds for straight-ahead to skilling or left turn to westbay. Coming from westbay, they stay green for 5 seconds for traffic to either turn left, go straight ahead or turn right. If you’re coming from Skilling you get a PHENOMENALLY long time to emerge from Skilling hill road. Like 25 seconds I think it is. Asleep? What all this amounts to is, that more often than not, no matter where you are coming from, it takes a fecking AGE to get through these lights. Answer: PUT A ROUND-ABOUT THERE. BLOODY EASY. ALL YOU NEED IS WHITE PAINT AND CEMENT. JOB DONE.

 4. well i know i am on the wrong site here, so please excuse me, but it is sort of a traffic thing…. whilst meandering down rather slowly to the famous torchlight to west bay sit ( which by the way might be something to do wilth the feast of the assumption on the previous sat, still trying to work it out) I and my fellow comrades found ourselves to be walking alongside a flotilla of strange american vehicles .. horns ablazing, and chaps in stetsons and cowboy boots… yikes ?? a friend suggested we had come across a KKK rally ( it did rather look like it) confederate flags in the breeze too ( a little offenisve to black americans as we know) However, being curious, I went and asked.. not as sinister as first thought, it was the dorset branch of the american car club.. who had been here before on Elvis day? ah well, still a little sad when traditions are poached from a country only a little older than 200 years, sort of line dancing with cars and dear nerds. bit sorry i missed elvis day last year, anyone else spot that one?

 5. If SHARED SPACE works in Kensington Hight Street, it can work in Bridders. Good for the economy too, its instigation would attract traffic management afficianados from around the globe. Whats not too like?
