It is approaching that time of the year when talk of Christmas gift buying preoccupies everyone's thoughts. Why not make things easier this year and solve this seasonal nightmare by visiting the Dorset Pottery Groups' Annual Exhibition in the Allsop Gallery at the Bridport Art Centre.
It runs from Tuesday 21st October to Saturday 1st November (closed Sundays and Mondays) and is open during the hours of 1000 till 1600. All those Christmas gift dilemmas can disappear with one visit to buy your loved ones and friends a gift of pottery made, created and inspired by the individualism of the Dorset Pottery Group.
This year we welcome new talent from our ranks exhibiting for the first time, adding a fresh feel to the event. Also we are pleased to have Karen Edwards of Congresbury as our guest potter with her fine garden sculptures, planters and plaques that will compliment any setting from traditional to modern. This is the first time Karen's work has been shown in Dorset.
In all we have up to 39 members due to exhibit their latest work so the variety is immense and amongst our wide array of differing work our members will be showing fine porcelain, stoneware, earthenware and jewelery.
The Dorset Pottery Group started in 1993 and our annual exhibition is the showcase put on for all our members to encourage them to produce ceramics and pottery for sale, whether they are professional, semi pro or just a dabbling amateur.
In 2000 the Dorset Pottery Group was given its greatest challenge to date as a group by creating a ceramic fossil depicting the unique aspects of Dorset like oil drilling, Tolpuddle Martyrs, rope and net making, D Day landings or Portland stone. Each member of the time was tasked with the creation of a segment each of the sculpture which now hangs at the rear of the Bridport Arts Centre café and can be viewed by all visitors. It is a fascinating slice of history review.
This year's exhibition has something for everyone to enjoy.
